A Collection of Views.
Violinists and other musicians have long regarded Johann Sebastian Bach's Chaconne in D minor as one of the great treasures of their art; a work equally demanding and rewarding, both to play and to hear. It epitomizes Bach's compositions for unaccompanied violin, which stand at the summit of the literature for stringed instruments. It has been performed, recorded, published and arranged (and written about) innumerable times. What this book does, on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Bach's birth in 1685, is offer glimpses of the work from the most prominent of these many perspectives.
